Wonder why we don't make a “waterproof” sunscreen?
The FDA has not issued support of any claims of “waterproof ” with regard to sunscreens. If you see a product that claims it is “waterproof” do not take it at its word. Water washes product off. At best the product can be resistant to water meaning it is harder to wash off than a water based product. To be sure you are getting the protection you need, apply an effective sunblock such as Suntan Hawaii SPF 30 sunscreen lotion or SPF 30 greaseless spray, 30 minutes before entering the sun and again after leaving the water.

What does SPF mean again?
If you get red out in the sun in 10 minutes—then using an SPF of 5 allows you to stay in the sun five times longer and get the same amount of redness. So try this on for size—if you get red in 10 minutes and put on an SPF 30 then you could stay in the sun for 300 minutes or 5 hours and get the same degree of redness as you would in 10 minutes without protection. But we still say, no matter what the SPF, reapply, reapply, reapply and avoid mid day hours whenever possible.

What to do if you do get burned:
It is really important that you act as soon as you realize you are burned. The skin continues to burn after you have come in from the sun until it is cooled down. That is what aloe is all about. It immediately reduces the tempurature of the skin which stops the burning. In order to undo what has already been done, you must reapply Suntan Hawaii's Ultra Aloe Gel several times over the hours following exposure—as long as the burn is uncomfortable and your skin feels tight. When the redness receeds and the discomfort lessens, begin daily application of Suntan Hawaii's Summer Knight After-Sun Lotion to reload the moisture content in the skin and start the repair process.

Protect your children:
Most cases of melanoma are caused by exposure as far back as childhood. Applying a non invasive clear, greaseless spray like Suntan Hawaii's SPF 30 to your children before and during sun exposure will positively reduce their chances of getting melanoma later in life.
